These Copy Marriage Certificates (sometimes referred to as marriage licences) are recommended for legal and official purposes. Copies are always requested when beginning divorce proceedings and applying for pension or social security claims. All certificates are government certified for official use.
Marriage certificates can be also essential records for carrying out genealogical, or family history, research when looking for the next line of enquiry.
We can additionally supply any certificates for UK marriages registered overseas at a Consulate, High Commission, or with the Armed Forces (British Army Overseas Records - BAOR).
Of particular interest to our expanding overseas client base, our 'Scan & Send' service provides an advanced copy by email - sent as the document is dispatched. This can be highly useful when a copy is sufficient to begin legal proceedings whilst waiting for the orginal to arrive with you.
For overseas clients needing to validate the authenticity of the certificate as having been produced in the UK, we also offer a legalisation service whereby the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office will attach a dated Apostille to the reverse of the certificate. Clients should check with the relevant authority as to whether this is necessary.
For the purpose of clarity, the UK (or United Kingdom) includes England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The term 'UK' is sometimes confused with Great Britain which refers to the mainland only and excludes Northern Ireland.
