If you've made a change of name by Deed Poll, you may wish to update your passport if you have one. Note that it's not a legal requirement to update your passport as soon as you change your name, unlike your Driving License, so if you have some validity left that you don't wish to lose, you can put it off until your passport runs out. You can request the name change on your passport by either:
- Collecting a hard copy from your local Post Office
- Applying for a renewal online
You will need to post an original of your Deed Poll to HM Passport Office along with any previous change of name documentation if you have any.
Updating your passport will be classed as a renewal, and therefore will cost £ 75.50 if you renew online, or £ 85 if you complete a paper form. Before you can apply for the change, you need to request your Deed Poll, which you can do with Vital Certificates online in under 10 minutes!
Read on to find out how you can make the change, what you need to do afterwards and find the answer to many common questions.
